St. John the Baptist and its mission

Mission

The Society of St. John the Baptist Odv, as a free association of a secular and private nature, equidistant from political and religious power, was founded in 1796, under the reign of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Ferdinand III of Lorraine with the main purpose of regulating the celebrations of June 24 in honor of St. John the Baptist, Patron Saint of Florence.

Over time the Company has given itself the broader purpose of promoting and encouraging the conservation and development of the cultural and artistic heritage of the City of Florence and the Tuscany Region.

It is proposed to:

  • preserve and / or restore the Florentine and Tuscan traditions
  • promote events and patronal celebrations.
  • promote cultural, artistic and sporting events,
  • promote charitable and welfare works of interest and / or social solidarity.
